Three-day polio campaign begins today 142000 children to be vaccinated in Buner
Abid Bunery F.P Report 23/01/06 Buner: 142000 children up to five years age will be vaccinated against the fatal disease of polio here during three days national immunization campaign, started Tuesday (today). The drive formally inaugurated here in a well attended function, held in the office of executive district officer health in Swari on Monday. Syed Muamber Bacha, nazim tehsil council Swari as chief guest administered polio drops to selected children to formally inaugurated the drive.district planning officer-Musharraf Khan, district coordinator immunization-Dr. Tariq, children specialist-Dr. Javed Iqbal, programme in charge-Javeed Bacha, health staffers and media men participated. Unveiling whole of the plan, Dr.Tariq informed that 335 mobile teams, 29 fixed and 8 transit teams will serve the targeted population under the supervision of 69 area supervisors to ensure immunization of each and every child even at the top of hills to achieve cent percent goal. Dr.Javeed Iqbal in his address expressed concern over existence of the fatal disease of polio in the Muslims countries and disclosed that the other countries had shifted burden of expenditures to the affected countries adding the Muslim country of Saudi Arabia had shouldered the expenses for a year but no more. He urged upon the Muslims that they must come forward and sense their joint responsibility of fighting against the disease just by ensuring administering the polio drops to their children and play positive their role in convincing rest of their neighours to get rid of that fatal disease before the fixed time i.e. 2007. Dr.Javeed further informed that the situation here in Pakistan was fast improving as total positive cases in the last year were registered 25 out of them NWFP share was just 5 and district Buner nil. He hoped that whole of the country would be able to get polio free certificate within its time if the health staffers and masses kept it war against polio continued with the same zeal. Syed Muamber Bacha in his address appreciated the efforts made by the foreign donors here in Pakistan in connection with eradication of the fatal diseases like polio and also provided heavy funds for community uplift adding community participation is a must for any move whether to combat any disease, disaster or turn an area develop. Tehsil Nazim very argumentatively proved that the time is rip to comforward and brings positive changes in the life of locals by shouldering the responsibility with donors and non-governmental organizations. The Nazim extended all out help to the health staffers in connection with making the campaign successful and extended his all out cooperation both physical and material to ensure health environment for the locals. He attracted staffers attention towards presence of the mad dogs in the area that have juperdised life of locals and hoped that the health staffers will cooperate with the tehsil administration to kill of the stray dogs to ensure fear free movements in the bazaars.
